Keep Your Home Safe on Thanksgiving

This is no surprise ... cooking fires are more likely to happen on Thanksgiving than on any other day of the year.  According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking fires are connected to more than 1,000 reported home-structure fires on Thanksgiving every year. That's almost three times the national average.

Why?  Trying to cook when you are doing a dozen other holiday-related things, cooktops and ovens that haven’t been used since last Thanksgiving, and, the number one cause, deep-frying your turkey.

If you want to protect yourself and your home this year, always fry the turkey outside and make sure you are far away from the house or other things that burn.  Fryers should only be used on flat surfaces, and never be placed on wooden decks or, no matter how cold or rainy it is, in your garage.

Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!
